ENGLISH 7 
On Friday 9/22, completed spelling test, Week 5.
Filled out 2nd novel check. 
QW: On science fiction --Write what you think it is, what it means. Have you ever read any science fiction? If so, what? Have you seen any science fiction films or TV shows? If so, what? Do you think science fiction is wildly exaggerated. What is the science part of the term?
In literature textbooks, read  Ray Bradbury’s science fiction story,“All Summer In A Day,” pgs. 264-270. Then, plotted it on a plot diagram -- handed out.
On Monday, 9/25, Used that plot diagram, as well as their literature textbooks, to write a plot summary for All Summer In A Day. Required -- one direct passage for each stop on the plot line -- exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution. In chromebooks in 7th grade English folder. Completed plot diagram with the summary required on Tuesday.
Completed a parts of speech grammar quiz.
On Tuesday, 9/26--
Graded mugshots quiz from last week.
Returned character studies on Jing Mei. Looked over your work. Let’s see which ones worked.
Now a chance to do another --  Margot character paragraph work for All Summer In A Day  . Describe Margot's character, her personality and behavior. Use at least three direct passages. (Handout with specifics on the assignment.) 

HW: Wed : Type a rough draft one-paragraph character study of Margot in All Summer In A Day.
Planner check. Count checks and turn in that number for points
Thurs:Mugs, week 5 and turn in check in sheet
Fri:  Final draft Margot character study. Must include rough draft.
Spelling Unit 6. Details to come on this one.Still working out the bugs. 
Novel Check #3. 

ENGLISH 8
 On Friday, 9/22 -- worked on the Trial of Sponge Bob Square Pans. Each student got a list of evidence, and an assignment to be on the prosecuting or defense team. Using that evidence, you will write an argument for your side.
On Monday 9/25-- Teams got their arguments together to be able to present on Tuesday.
In the meantime, worked in the essay packet on pages 39, 40, 41 & 42, 43 & 44.
On Tuesday, 9/26--
Sponge Bob Trial was held. In teams. Everyone handed in their own evidence chart, stapled along with their team's final summary -- guilty or not guilty. Verdict tomorrow.


Essay packets? Take a little more time on these.
If time---

HW: Weds: The Hunger Games books and reading schedule to be handed out on Wednesday.  Make sure you have completed essay packet pages.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
