ENGLISH 7
Turned in Writing, rough and final drafts stapled together to your class basket on back, purple table. Other photos and poems for the board?
Finished Soto work. On pg. 121 in literature textbooks, and in your notebooks, answer Qs 1, 3 & 6, all parts, complete sentences.

Read “Melting Pot,” p. 122 in literature textbook.
Answered Qs on p. 124, #s 1 and 4. And, on p. 125, #s 4 and 5.

HW: Friday, spelling exercises, exercises are on p. 15, Do 1 through 20. The spelling words for Week 1 are on p. 14. (in notebook ok) and quiz.

ENGLISH 8
A place to start. Benchmark Essay. You’ll do the same essay in May to see how much you have improved!
Get chromebook from your section and a piece of paper to brainstorm. You must brainstorm and turn in that brainstorm. And the prompt & rubric.
Get a prompt. Work only in your English folder.
Title your essay, Benchmark Prompt. THIS PERIOD ONLY.
HW: Interviews to continue on Friday. You can talk and write your paragraph then. If want to do ahead, that is ok, too.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
