ENGLISH 7
Completed Spelling unit 6.


Last Novel Check (#3)
On a separate piece of paper to hand in, write:
A letter to the author. Please say what you liked about the novel, with specific examples. If you did not like something, write your criticism with tact and be constructive. Make sure you comment on the main character(S) as well as the ending. Say whether or not you would recommend the novel to someone else.
Use proper letter writing form. Fill out east two-thirds of a page.


FINISH FOR HOMEWORK. Must be in English folder.


Starting  Read Aloud on Monday while finishing novel..


Novel Project dates: Tuesday--Novel Character paragraph: 10 points; Thurs --Plot line with direct passages: 10 points; Fri--Illustration of one key scene: 10 points; Final due-Oct 8. Can turn in early.

Quiz/worksheet for Chapter 1.

Worksheet #2 -- Literary terms/ elements, The Hunger Games. Fill out.


Topic sentences and titles work -- bring on Monday for review.


HW: Monday: Read Chapters up to and including Chapter 5

Weds. Finish reading Part 1 of The Hunger Games, up to and including Chapter 9.

Must come in at break on Monday to make up classwork--Ruby, Cassidy Burry, Tavio, Max, Allison, Jack, Sean

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
