ENGLISH 7
Move plot  summary into English folder and finish.
When done, in notebooks, respond:

QW: On science fiction --Write what you think it is, what it means. Have you ever read any science fiction? If so, what? Have you seen any science fiction films or TV shows? If so, what? Do you think science fiction is wildly exaggerated? What is the science part of the term?
We will share these. Be ready.

Begin reading in literature textbooks, Ray Bradbury’s science fiction story,“All Summer In A Day,” pgs. 264-270. Finish reading for homework, if not done  in class.

HW:  Tues: Finish reading All Summer In A Day, p. 264 in literature text
Weds: Planner
Thurs: Mug check-in and review and quiz
Fri-Novel Check #3, Finish novel AND
Spelling Unit 6 -- review of units 1 through 5. Homework--proofreading exercises on pgs. 34, 35, 36, 37. Just write the words, spelled correctly. Week 6 is a review of units  1-5. Know all 50 words, but tested on 20. The words listed on p.34.
ENGLISH 8
Handouts on essay. Brainstorming topic and different organizers. Keep for your files.(pgs 22-26)

The Trial of Sponge Bob Square Pants. Each student gets a list of evidence, and an assignment to be on the prosecuting or defense team/partners. Using that evidence, you will write an argument for your side.  Due Tuesday.

4th &5th Returned “The Tell-Tale Heart” Insanity Trial work. Read over comments. Look at the individual points/scores. What did you miss? On a separate piece of paper to hand in, write what feedback you got on that work. What do you need to work on, consider that for your next essay.  After, file in portfolio,.

HW: SpongeBob arguments. Each person does own sheet.
Present as a partners/group if completed work on worksheet and written argument.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
