Got Week 2 vocabulary worksheet for Refugee.
Finished Question on Isabel, Chapter (8) 
QW2- Question- Allowing another family to escape with your family or not is an ethical dilemma. Should Ivan’s father allow another  family to use their boat? Support your decision with facts/examples from the book. 
Listen/Read:
Chapter 9, Mahmoud, p. 49 AND
Chapter 10, Josef, p. 56
QW3- What conclusions can you draw come up with (not actual drawing!) about Mahmoud’s father based on the end of this chapter? And: What examples can you find that prove the children were able to escape their horrible past during moments on the ship?
Listen/read- Chapter 11, Isabel p. 60 AND Chapter 12, Mahmoud, p. 66 (To finish on Weds., p.72)

Friday- Refugee Week 2 vocabulary and a quiz on words

QW Choose -- 
 Prompt 1: Rules - Are there any rules that you live with that you wish you could live without? Are there any house rules and/or school rules that you dislike? Have you ever been punished for breaking this rule? Describe your thoughts and/or experiences.
OR
Prompt 2: Dream Place- What is your dream dwelling or home? Would you live in a mansion, a simple cave, a little cottage, or somewhere else? Would your home contain anything special or interesting? Describe your dream home.

Vocabulary worksheets. With a partner. Guess first, Dictionaries second! Classwork only. Use the context clues in the sentences to guess the meaning of the underlined words on your worksheet. Then, look up the words’ definitions in the dictionary.

Thursday -- Finish the novel, Part 3.
Will have quiz on Part 3.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
