Check Google classroom-- Long distance learning begins!

Friday, August 30, 2013

A big thank you, parents, who came by last night. Your presence is always appreciated and needed. You can still donate to the class book fund by leaving your donation for me in the office. Please, also, leave your letter for your son/daughter in my box, and I will get it to them.
Have a great three-day weekend.

ENGLISH 7

Reviewed and traded/ graded spelling exercises and quiz on Unit 1.

QW: Walking along an empty street, you notice a wallet. It contains $5,000 in cash but no name or address. What would you do? Would it change your decision if inside you found the name, address and  picture of either a wealthy-looking man or a frail-looking old woman? Why or why not? Think about this. Then write. For at least five minutes.

Returning rough drafts to you on Tuesday. They will be due on Wednesday.
You made it through the first full week of school. Yay! Now, a three-day weekend as a reward.
HW:  Have a great weekend. Make sure to read!
Weds: Final Draft--Me in 7th Grade
Next week: grammar!

ENGLISH 8

Checked out literature textbooks. Make sure to write your name in the inside cover, in ink. Take them home and leave them there until the end of the school year.

QW: What would you do if you were locked inside your favorite  store overnight?  (Enjoy this one! It is a recurring dream for me.)

Essay Day 3. Reviewed and read yesterday’s handouts.

HW: None. Have a great weekend. Make sure to read!
Next week. Mystery unit and grammar work begin.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
