ENGLISH 7
Handed in plot summary of A Boy and A Man.
Mugshot reviewed/checked in.

Read in lit text: Ray Bradbury’s science fiction story, All Summer In A Day, pgs. 264-270. You can read with partners, switching back and forth. Or on your own, if you choose. Finish reading for homework. Keep track of plot details: exposition, rising action, climax, falling action and resolution.

HW: Fri: Spelling Unit 4, test and exercises, p. 27, 1-20. Write misspelled word five times. Show for credit on exercises.
Novel Check #2, halfway through novel


ENGLISH 8
Peer Edited and checked in Squeaky rough draft character study.
Fill out the peer edit form.  CB on paper. Attach. Return to writer. Final draft due Monday. If you want to rewrite and have me check your topic sentences on Friday, please bring them by. Good topic sentences are key. The rest will follow logically. `
When done, lit textbooks, go to p. 296 on the Squeaky story and answer questions 1-5. Complete sentences. Can finish work on this in class on Friday if not done today.

HW: Fri: Section 2 Mystery Novel questions. Expect a quiz.

Mon: Final Draft, Squeaky character study essay paragraph. Hand in rough draft, final draft and peer edit. Staple ahead of time.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
