ENGLISH 7
QW: Some adults have a lot of trouble enjoying themselves. If you were asked to give them some advice about how to play and have more fun, what would you  say?
No spelling pretest today. Unit 6 is a review of units 1-5. You are expected to know all 50 words, but will be tested on 20 of them.  Exercises and test will be on Wednesday instead of Friday so you have time to finish novel project.

Trade and Grade last week’s diagnostic reading review test.

Worktime: Novel project, spelling or mugshot, week 6.

HW: Weds: Planner Check;  Spelling Unit 6, a review of units  1-5. Know all 50 words, but tested on 20. The words listed on p.34. Homework--proofreading exercises on pgs. 34, 35, 36, 37. Just write the words, spelled correctly.
Thurs: Mugshot Week 5.
Fri: Final Novel Project Due . No late passes.
Worktime-- Novel Project. Due one week from today! You should have finished your novel today
ENGLISH 8
Speckled Band worktime. Assignment due Wednesday.
Deadline extended one day. Make sure not late.

Mini-writer’s conferences continue.

Bring with you to the writer’s conference: (1) your self-graded Squeaky paragraph, (2) your Butcher DEJ & annotated story, (3) your English notebook; (4) The Tell-Tale Heart character study paragraph.


HW: Weds: Speckled Band assignment due
Fri: Finish mystery novel. And reading guide questions. Get start on final project.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
