ENGLISH 7

Still need to return books: Zach, Aidan, Marcos, Abby P.

Food/treats for Tuesday:
Marcos, Aidan, Seth, Zach, Mathilde (napkins), Allie, Martha, Abby E.,
Cassius, Merritt, Jacob, Jasmine. Enough for 28.

Idiom -- a figurative expression that is different from the literal one. Idioms mean different things to different cultures and groups.

With your assigned group. Explain at least 20 of the idioms, meaning in your own words, describe what they really mean. Write that down. Write down your plans for the skit, the idioms you will use. Then practice a skit. You will be using at least ???? (do a lot) of the idiomatic expressions and performing a skit for the class tomorrow.

Forget the mugshots for this week. We will take care of it next! Happy Thanksgiving.

ENGLISH 8
Grateful:  Warmly or deeply appreciative of kindness or benefits received
QW: Write about a time that you were not grateful and later became more grateful. What changed your thinking? Wrote down five things or people you are grateful for.

Shared a few of those turkey essays.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
