Handed in Diagnostic Reading to class basket.
DEMONSTRATION speech. Handout.

QW: “As soon as I arrived, I sensed something out of place.” Think mystery. Our first novel. Think of it as the start of a story. Write for at least five minutes. Share a few.
One writing task. Read advice from last year’s kids. Shared and then created a classroom “rule” or idea to make this class work well. On post-it, supplied by me, on wall tonight for parents.
Graded benchmarks. This means you will share with one person, giving them VIEWING access only. I will explain….Open up Google docs and your Facebook ESSAY. Share your essay with the person who is going to read it. (I will tell you who.) Do not give them edit function, just view. You, the evaluator, should now have access to that essay. You use the printed rubric to look over and “grade” their work. Be sure to include kind and constructive comments. Look at the prompt.
When done, you can show them the rubric. Hand in to me.
HW: Fri: Syllabus quiz and parent signature
Mon: 8/31: Mystery Novel
