Looked over The Call of the Wild agree or disagree statements with Jack London. Look over your checks from the start of the novel unit. Which ones do you agree/disagree with?
In your notebooks, select one of the statements that you and Jack London agree. Then write a paragraph or two saying why. Use an example of something that happened in the novel to support your paragraph. Put a post-it on that entry.

Finished Dead Poet’s movie.
Completed worksheet, especially the last question. Please do the worksheet ON YOUR OWN, not with a partner. Thank you! Mr. Keating thanks you as well. Handed in.
QW: A quick reaction to the movie. Was there any one (or more) person(s) or event in the movie that you could identify with or relate to? Who was it and why? What was relevant about the movie made decades ago to your education or life today? What is your takeaway, that is, what would you say to a friend who has never seen the movie or known much about poetry?

*Be ready to share these on Wednesday.

HW: Friday: Rough draft of essay for poetry project
Tues: Final poetry project due, with essay and ready to recite and present poem.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
