Checked in paragraphs from 4 topic sentences -- in notebooks-- 12 points.

QW: A fact refers to something that can be proven  to be true, while opinion refers to something a person believes or perceives. Think about the last movie you saw. Your writing task--Write three factual sentences about the last movie you saw. Then write three sentences that describe your opinions about the movie. If you were writing about Toy Story 2 for example, two of your sentences might read:

Many people really loved the movie Toy Story 2, and it broke box office records for attendance.   Toy Story 2 is one of the best animated feature films ever made, and it broke box office records for attendance.

Read in textbook: “Amigo Brothers” by Piri Thomas, p. 290 through 298. Be ready to answer questions and do some writing on the story on Wednesday, which means, make sure you read it! Take notes on character traits and be ready to write a character study on one of the main characters.

QW: More commonly misspelled words--a few you should know. The following words are commonly misspelled, by a lot of people. Write a short entry, a few sentences or so, using at least EIGHT of the words. Watch your grammar and punctuation, too. Spell words correctly!
The words:  extremely, controversial, valuable, surprise, strategy, receipt, neighbor, convenient, characteristic, unnecessary, therefore, jealousy, ridiculous, jewelry

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
