ENGLISH 7
Checked in mug. We will review it on Friday.
Check out the stage versions of A Christmas Carol, at Santa Rosa's 6th Street Playhouse (link here) matinees and evenings through Dec. 23. It costs $15 for kids your age. Everyone gets to go! Can also see it in San Francisco at ACT's Geary Theater (link here) matinees and evening through Dec. 24. Pricier! We will watch it in class next week, and I will also post links where you can watch online.

On a separate piece of paper to hand in, write and respond in complete sentences, not skipping every other line. One full page required.
On the Christmas Eve that she came to school to bring her brother home for good, Scrooge’s sister said, “Father is so much kinder than he used to be, that home is like Heaven!...and you’re to be a man.”
Based on Fan’s statement, what kind of relationship do you think Scrooge had with his father? Why was he at school and not at home? How do you imagine his father had previously been unkind?
What childhood experiences can you identify that might have led to Scrooge’s growing up to be a grumpy old man with no joy in his life?
Do you think an unpleasant experience in childhood should excuse bad adult behavior? Explain your position.

A Christmas Carol Day 4. Hand out Stave 4. Listened to most of it.
We will finish Stave 4 in class on Friday.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
