Absent yesterday? Please show me work due Monday to get credit!
Read aloud, Ch. 21, 22 & 23.

HW: Weds: Check planners. Put in work for all classes. This counts!
Finish The Giver, if not already.
Thurs: Mugshots weeks 21 & 22. A quiz, too.
Fri: Reward trip /Set 4 Vocabulary and context sentences due.
Mon: The first of the February holidays!



ENGLISH 8   “Think outside the box.” Literally and figuratively!

Hand in evidence chart. Briefly discussed. No writing required after all! Hand in the chart. Response questions from Monday in your notebook for later check.

Different writing/reading assignment. Specifically on intelligence. Informational materials, that is, Common Core.
  1. Read one of three articles by going to listed links. Can do more if time.
  2. Copy to your folder an evidence journal template, by going to that listed link.
  3. On your copy of the evidence journal, fill in an evidence journal on that article. Can combine all three articles into one evidence journal. Use, or use as example and make your own.
  4. Make sure you have summarized at the end and reflected on the article or articles..
A writing prompt will be given and completed in class on Wednesday, tomorrow. If you finish your work from one article, do another!
Quiet & individual work time.
HW:Weds:  Finish reading and completing an evidence journal for the three articles on intelligence. Expect a writing prompt.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
