ENGLISH 7
Finish The Giver. Fill out the movie/book  comparison worksheet.
Two sheets to fill out.
The Giver Review -- Requirements:
Two  pages, neatly written. Your opinion of the movie, especially comparing to the book. Three examples of how the movie and the book are the same.
Three examples of how they are different. A concluding sentence that recommends or does not recommend someone else seeing the film.
HW: Weds: Finish charts on The Giver movie. Start working on the writing.

Thurs: Mugs AND  The Giver movie/book review
Friday: Spelling sentences and quiz,Unit 14. Write 20 sentences, using each of the words on p. 70.

ENGLISH 8
Persuasive Speeches. Handouts and ideas. Pick three from the basket. Choose one. Trade in class period, not outside of your class.
Ready to present Monday March 9. Brainstorming rough draft due tomorrow, Wednesday. 
The Pearl. The movie. Be prepared to review it in an essay format, so use the handout and take notes. Be aware of significant differences in character, setting and plot between the movie and the book. Write that down when you notice it. Something strike you as funny or off? Write that down.  Can use it in your review. 
If you were absent on Tuesday, come in at break to my classroom and you can see the part you missed.
HW: Weds: Speech rough draft/brainstorm. What’s your research? Interviewing anyone?

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
