Last essay of the semester. Timed. In class. 40 minutes. Your choice of three topics.

Outline or brainstorm. Use the five-paragraph essay format. Feel free to use any essay handouts you have, but focus on your time. It is limited to this period.

Individual grade sheets and labels handed out. Time to work on portfolio in class on Wednesday, so have work with you tomorrow. Please settle any grade disputes by Friday.

QW: Writer’s Notebooks. Write down what you want to accomplish this year, this semester. What are some of your resolutions for the year? If you can’t think about the whole, entire 2011, think about your resolutions for the semester. If not semester, how about the month of January. Keep your pen moving. Don’t think too hard and don’t stop writing.

Word of the day:  Resolution: (n) a thing determined upon; decision as to future action. Example: My resolution appears daunting: I will not stay up late playing on my iphone and get to bed early so I can get to my 6 a.m. spin class. 

QW: On a separate piece of paper, write a resolution for the semester. What do you hope to accomplish in school? In English? Be serious, or serious/funny. Hand in.

 Portfolio assignment. You knew it was coming!

• Papers returned and filed. The Pearl Essays: nice work! Next, an in-class timed essay. Remember, in order to keep pace you have to outline or brainstorm and stay organized.
• Make up tests. All must be done by Weds at lunch, or by prior arrangement in one of your study halls with Ms. A’s approval.
• Turn in unused late slips by Friday

HW: Tuesday: Begin working on your portfolio essay. Brainstorm or outline due.

Dear Parents and Students,
Thank you all for a wonderful first semester.
We all came to a great last day before vacation, candy canes, presents and good cheers. We like to say at Twin Hills that the Friday before Christmas break is one of the happiest of the year, and it seems this one made it so, again.
Have a terrific time over the holidays.
Spend it relaxing, laughing, hanging with family and friends, seeing a movie, hiking.
Get into a book or two. Find one you can love, or be inspired by, or just learn something new.
Check back here over the next two weeks in case I can get some pictures or videos up.
