ENGLISH 8

Reviewed assignment on next book, A women’s issue novel written by a woman.
You can choose from my classroom library, the school library, the public library, bookshelves of friends, family and others. You can choose from  the writers on the list I handed out, or other writers. If you have a book to show me on Wednesday, you can have extra credit. The sooner you have the book in hand the better.

The book and your final project must be completed by March 29. It involves interviewing three generations of women about the issues raised in your novel. No vampire books. No Stieg Larsson books. ("He's a guy, BTW) No teen angst about boyfriend books. Fiction. Check your book with me. If you think it is a bit too adult in situations and language, check it with your parents and with me. We both reserve the right to say no.

Soundtrack assignment is due tomorrow. Make sure to also hand in the soundtrack worksheet.

If you were absent Friday, please make up The Book Thief test asap.

A few writer’s conferences still to do:
4--Roxanne, Adam, Mark
5--Justin,  Crystal, Skylar, Kyle
6--Stephen, Heidi, Noah, Shawn, Gino, Alex, Gabe, Robbie, Anthony, Matthew, Keelan, Toby, Christian, Diego, Katie, Jordan

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
