Review The Call of the Wild presentations on Tuesday.
Get books and Chapter 1 lit circle worksheets. (Same group as before)
If you don’t have four to a group, split up the 4th activity and the words so you have done a total of eight.)
Make sure you split up the work today, in class, do you do not have to do everything for homework.

Weds: Chapter 2 and ready to present lit circle work.

Handout--Speech Assignment -- Ideas Assigned. You may trade once, in this class only. Brainstorm and your choice of two ideas due Tuesday. Look at link online to see what your topic is. May trade with someone in class, today only.

QW:  Given all of Death’s warnings, were you prepared for the way the novel ended? In what ways was it what you expected? What surprised you?  
Discuss -- Quick Write from before break, that is how you would characterize death as he appears in this novel, with a brief character sketch of Death as he appears in this novel.
Handouts on themes. Read and annotate for Tuesday.
HW: Tues: Speech brainstorm due. Choose from your two topics and brainstorm each. Bring that work to class.
Annotate themes worksheet. (That means read it!)

Thurs: Final Test, The Book Thief. Turn in packets.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
