ENGLISH 7
Mugshots check in and review on Friday.
Started presentations. Quite good, so far. The rest on Friday.
You will get your books on Friday and we will begin the novel in class.
Thanks for coming by at break (as asked)  if you knew you would not be here Friday. Easy to stay current!

ENGLISH 8
Finish QW on Kindertransport
QW: (1) First, as if you are one of the children who was rescued. You are writing a letter to your parents who you left, just after you have arrived in England. Tell them how you feel? Are you angry? Resentful? Grateful? Frightened? Do you think you will see them again?  Do you have anything to ask them?
(2) Second, write as an adult, 50 years later, remembering. What do you regret? What are you grateful for? What do you miss? Shared with specific partners.

Lit circles -- Parts 8 & 9, worksheets.  You can work with assigned partner. One partner does odd numbers. The other does even. You both do the last question.

Grade quizzes! So many. If time.
HW: Friday--FINISH BOOK, Read PART 10 & Epilogue, Complete WS. Expect a quiz! (Parts 9, 10 & Epilogue not collected until after spring break. )

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
