ENGLISH 7
  • Reviewed spelling requirements for tomorrow.
  • Handed in RD/FD Diagnostic Writing (with peer edit)
  • Finish interviewing. You can work on your paragraph tonight. You will get some time in class on Friday to finish and then begin the presentations.

HW: Fri: Spelling quiz and homework, Unit 1. Exercises 1-20 on p. 15.  Do the homework exercises in your notebook.

ENGLISH 8

1. A writing task. Read advice from last year’s kids. Share and then create a classroom “rule” or idea to make this class work well.
2. QW: Advice -- After chatting with a partner, in your notebook, briefly summarize what you read and what it means to you.
3. THEN On post-it, supplied by me, on wall tonight for parents. In the area near your class photo.  Yes, your name!
Evaluated benchmarks essays.
This means you will share with one person, giving them VIEWING access only. I will explain….
Open up Google drive and your Benchmark ESSAY. Share your essay with the person who is going to read it. (I will tell you who.)  Do not give them edit function, just view. (Select the down arrow when sharing.)
You, the evaluator, should now have access to that essay. You use the printed rubric to look over and evaluate their work. Be sure to include kind and constructive comments. Look at the prompt. When done, you can show them the rubric. Staple rubric to the outline and put in class basket.

Finish interviewing. Ready to present on Friday? If not enough time, we will carry over to Friday. If you can start your paragraph, go ahead.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
