Point of View. Rue’s Journal--
Rue is the only tribute other than Peeta that Katniss grows close to. We get a sense of who Rue is through Katniss’ first-person perspective. We do not, however, get any glimpse of Rue’s internal monologue—that is, we do not know what Rue really thinks or how Rue really feels. Pretend that you are Rue and talking from her first person-point of view, describe the friendship and/or the events that build up around her and Katniss.
OR  Tone. A Eulogy for Rue--
A eulogy is a piece of writing that celebrates and commemorates the life of a person. It is usually spoken at a person’s funeral. Rue did not receive a proper funeral nor a proper eulogy. Pretend that Katniss has written a eulogy for Rue. Below, in Katniss’ voice write Rue’s eulogy. Be sure to capture Katniss’ emotions by writing in a sad and somber tone.
While writing, settled grade disputes.
Start work on Katniss characterizatIon handout. Make sure to finish the book. Will continue Katniss characterization on Monday in class. (5th/6th to get then.)

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
