ENGLISH 7
Finish partner work of Chapter 5 discussion questions. We will return to #8 on Wednesday. Make sure to look up all the names of the scientists and others on p. 101 and know what their accomplishments were.

Handout and homework for Chapter 6.

Discussed what you will see or should be looking for in Chapter 6.   

HW:  Weds: Chapter 6--Read and complete worksheet. Be familiar with the vocabulary. Look for it in context in the chapter. Look up at least five of the scientists, artists and others on p. 101 and know what their accomplishments were-- DaVinci, Rembrandt, Curie, Schweitzer, Gandhi. Buddha, Beethoven, Copernicus, Shakespeare, Einstein, Michelangelo, Euclid, St. Francis.

Fri: Third quarter ends. Turn in unused late passes


ENGLISH 8
Completed movie review of “Flowers For Algernon,” emphasizing book and movie comparison. A four- to five-paragraph piece of writing, on Chromebooks, in English docs folder. Please title it “Flowers” Review.
In class only. Get assignment sheet and a chromebook. Return essay assignment with your name and class period to class basket at end of period.

Film rubric and examples of two good reviews, both online at class website
Returning Charlie writing task -- his growth and regression. Use it if you want.

If you were absent and think you missed too much of the movie and did not watch the online links available, you have an an alternative Algernon essay to write.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
