ENGLISH 7
Mug check in and review--graded! The last one.

Quiz on Albert Einstein.
You can use your notes -- write down all about who he was, why important, what country he was from, where did he move to, what is he most famous for, how does he relate to the book, A Wrinkle In Time.

Finished odd/even quiz-- discussion questions.
Prep discussion for Chapter 7
HW: Friday - Chapter 7 read. TURN IN UNUSED LATE PASSES-Last chance.

ENGLISH 8
Handouts-- Anticipation Guide for The Book Thief. Fill it out. Write paragraph. Tape in notebook.  Discuss.
Get books. Name inside, in ink. Must have cover on book. (Can be a plastic bag) Bring book with you every day.   Number and condition of book on clipboard.
QW: The Book Thief.  Look at the cover. Predict what you think the book will be about, considering what the graphic might mean.  What do you make of the dominoes? Who do you think the book thief is?
Handouts --1-Reading guide questions. Do not lose this packet. It will be worth many points! Write your name on the front. First reading due date is Monday. 2- Calendar and 3-note to parents.
How the book is organized..Split into 11 parts, plus a prologue and epilogue. Parts are divided in chapters. It is not always chronological.
HW: Fri: Annotate introductory pages in your packet.
Late pass due. Grade disputes settled next week.

MON:  Read Prologue and Chapter 1, in the book on pages 3 to 80. Complete all vocabulary and questions in reading guide packet on pages 5, 6 & 7. Expect a quiz or to talk about the book.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
