Refugee, Day 7
Listen -- Ch. 15- Mahmoud, (p.87)
Then write -
QW- 1: How and why do you think Mahmoud’s father is still able to make jokes considering the circumstances?

QW 2 - When each protagonist leaves his/her home, he/she becomes a refugee.  A refugee is " a person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster."   How specifically has becoming a refugee changed each character's life?

Write. Then share with one partner, then with class.
HW: Thurs: Grammar worksheet (to be handed out in class) and mug test
Fri: Spelling: To be determined.

ENGLISH 8
1-Completed quiz on Part 2, to Chapter 18. Separate piece of paper.

2-Reviewed characterization of Katniss and Figures of Speech (metaphors, similes & personification). With one partner. Use the answer keys to correct your work & then Return answer keys to me. Just two people.
PUT corrected work in class basket.
3. Worktime when done. Survival Backpack or reading.

Fri., Oct 19-- Read Part 3, The Victor, Chapters 19 through 27, the end of novel.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
