Finish and review grammar worksheets
Return papers and file them. (?)
Two Sides of me work. Handouts and Models. Work on in class today! Made progress so got one extra day. 
HW: Weds: Two Sides. Make sure to use colors. 
Thurs- Mugshot
Friday: Spelling Unit 5, exercises 1-20 on p. 31 and a quiz. Novel check #2. You are two-thirds through novel  Make sure to have novel with you. 


ENGLISH 8
Completed the final draft, one-paragraph character study of Squeaky from Raymond’s Run. First -- Handout/explain: Using Quotes In Writing and a powerpoint. Watch/take notes.
When finished, began reading in Literature Text, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, by Sir Arthur Conan Doyle, a Sherlock Holmes mystery. The introduction (read it!) is on p. 460, and the story begins on p. 462. Be sure to read the hints about the story in the introduction and in the margins. Be aware of plot development. (write them down), so you can diagram the plot of the story. 

HW: Weds: Finish reading the Sherlock Holmes story, The Adventure of the Speckled Band, noting plot points.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
