Returned IOA essays. Looked over comments and rubrics.
In notebooks--
QW 1 - How I did on the IOA essay. Make sure to figure out what you did well and what you need to work on. Did you lose points because you did not have a rough draft and a graphic organizer? Did you not turn in a rough draft at all so had no help on the final? Did you offer a complete look at yourself? Do you need some work on essay structure, particularly on topic sentences? Transitions?  Look at the rubric and the essay. Ask me if you can’t read my writing!
QW 2 - Hamadi. You may use your textbooks, (539). In your notebooks, Respond:
1- Why does Susan like spending time with Hamadi? Use at least one piece of evidence for support.
2-In your own words, explain Hamadi’s position on whether or not he has met Kahlil Gibran. Do you agree or disagree with his position? Why?
3- Why does Susan invite Hamadi to go caroling with her and her friends? What are people’s reactions to Hamadi’s behavior as the carol (sing)/

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
