ENGLISH 7
Completed Spelling exercises and post test Unit 23
Checked in mugshots and handed in completed check-off sheet. Will review them next week and get a new collection.

Lit Circle groups met. Got as much done as you could today. Group lit circle packets left in classroom with me so they will be safe and available on Tuesday, when you are back from vacation.
Remember to bring Call of the Wild with you to class every day.

Have a great holiday! See you next Tuesday.

ENGLISH 8
Final draft of compare/contrast essay handed in today.
Now is your chance to shine on all those essays you completed. Out of your last three essays, you picked one you wanted me to grade. You put all three essays together and attached a sticky note to the one you want the big grade on. You also wrote what you would like me to focus on in the evaluation. It is like completing a mini-portfolio without doing the work.
o Remember, not everyone writes a perfect essay every time, but it is your chance to pick the best of three, and, because of the odds, one of them is the best. You will still get significant points for turning in all your essays (at least 20), but only one of them will hit the jackpot, worth 50 points.

During your break, finish your women's novel. Interview 3 women.
Next Wednesday, your interviews will be due and you will begin writing your essay.
Final project due Fri 2/25, with all 10 DEJs, the eight you completed and checked in, as well as two more.

Have a great holiday! See you on Tuesday.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
