Gradebook update: We are getting there.
Students-- Come by at break and talk if questions. One-on-one communication works!
Parents--If you have a question, it would be great if you would encourage your son/daughter to come in directly to talk to me. They can quickly alert me to individual issues that we can usually take care of during break -- the time I am here in my room hoping to see them.
Thank you for helping out with our new program and making it work constructively for all of us.

ENGLISH 7 Friday Sept. 9, 2016

Classwork completed:
Novel Check-in # 1, worth 5 points. If absent on Friday, must do in class Monday.
Completed Spelling Test Unit 3
Completed (?) worksheet on "Two Kinds."

ENGLISH 8 Friday Sept. 9, 2016

Classwork completed:
Handed in worksheet for Insanity Trial.
Completed and turned in Mystery Novel Progress Check #2.

Began writing essay/argument for that trial. You should have been working in your English 8 google docs folder--instructions were on the white board and also given verbally--so that I could see how you were doing on that work. A number of you either did not start that writing or did not put it in your google docs folder.

Move that writing  ASAP into your English 8 google docs folder so I can see how much or whether the majority of your class needs more time.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
