Check in and peer-review spelling exercises, Week 6.
Completed a quiz on week 6. There will be 20 words on the quiz, worth 1 point each. No challenge words.

Peer grade and turn in test sheet-- worth 45 points total - CB your paper.

Check in and review topic sentence/paragraph work, Packet #2

HW: Monday: Complete pg. 2 of Paragraph Packet # 2. We will do the challenge at the bottom of the page in class on Monday.

HW: Weds: Planner check
Thurs: Illustration of one key scene AND weekly mug.
Friday: Spelling Week 7, exercises and quiz.
Mon 10/16--Put it all together in one final project

ENGLISH 8
Check in topic sentence essay work. Finish and review those topic sentences--pgs 51 & 52
For homework, DUE MONDAY,  read over “Writing Powerful Challenges,” on page 53 and do all the exercises for powerful challenges on p. 53 and p. 54.

Classwork -- The Hunger Games -- discussion questions-- With partners on Chapters  2 through 5. Wait for instructions.  Be sure you are also familiar with questions on the other chapters. We will discuss on Monday, but you are responsible for being an expert on your chapter.

HW:  Mon-- read over “Writing Powerful Challenges,” on page 53 and do all the exercises for powerful challenges on p. 53 and p. 54.

Tues: Read Chapters 7, 8 & 9, which finishes Part 1. Start Part 2. Expect a quiz

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
