ENGLISH 7
Resolution - what’s your plan, your resolution for this school year? Fill out a sheet on that and hand in.
Peer share and review Diagnostic Writing. A few models.
Peer share. First, take out and review the assignment.
Are there examples to back up how you were at the start of the school year? How were you friendly, for example? What did you do? Examples are essential.
How was the grammar? Spelling? Punctuation? As peer editor, correct it if you can.

HW: Tues: Final draft, typed or ink, Diagnostic Writing. Must include the rough draft.
Thursday- Mugshot week 1. Details to come!
Friday - Spelling Unit 2. Exercises on, p. 19, 1 through 20 & quiz on the 20 words.


ENGLISH 8
Three handouts, two tasks.
Read and annotate the detective story, The Butcher, The Thief and The Wolf.(Handout #1)
Annotate according to the annotation form/guide (Handout #2) you were given in class today. Keep that guide for your reference files. 
Fill out a Double-Entry Journal (Handout #3) and fill out, noting as many methods of investigation you can find that helped solve the crime. Directions and purpose of a DEJ are written on the back of that graphic organizer. Briefly summarize the story where indicated on the organizer.

HW: Tues- Annotated story and DEJ completed, with short summary of story on the bottom of that organizer. .

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
