ENGLISH 8
Want to hear what your parents thought of their time in middle school? Post-its on the back wall.

PEER- Evaluate benchmarks essays. First, what did you think?
Then give desk partner viewing access. Use supplied rubric to evaluate.
Be sure to ready essay first, then begin evaluation using the checkboxes.
The grade--so to speak-is really just an overall feel to the work. Provide constructive comments next. If they had a great brainstorm but not essay, maybe they need to figure out how to make more time to do the actual writing. If the essay was thin, maybe the brainstorm was inadequate and they needed to spend more time in planning, adding some detail and ideas.
When finished, staple your evaluation to their brainstorm and turn that in.

Now, those interview paragraphs. They need to go into a form. USE THIS LINK TO ACCESS THE FORM.
Make sure you DO NOT SUBMIT until you have filled in your name as interviewer and theirs and the subject who was interviewed, and then the paragraph you copied from your other file. DO NOT SUBMIT until you put in the paragraph because the form will not let you return to it.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
