ENGLISH 7
Paragraph packet. Check in and review. The written scrambled paragraph
Packet #2.
Start Refugee
Begin Read Aloud, Refugee by Alan Gratz.
Take notes in notebook.
Three stories about refugees. German, Cuban and Syrian, each fleeing their countries to seek refuge
QW-- What is your place of refuge? Describe it and why you go there. (In notebooks--after the notes on the novel background) 


HW: Tuesday- Make sure to have notebooks with you.
Weds: Planner
Thurs: Mugs
Friday: Spelling Unit 8 (on p. 44).  Write 10 sentences from the words. Must use and underline all 20 words. Need to use all the words, so there will be more than one word in one sentence!
Turn in unused late passes. End of Quarter 1


ENGLISH 8
Finished and review scrambled essay on Cats and Dogs.
Checked in final draft No Excuses project. Test on words on Tuesday.
Keep final draft to study from and turn in tomorrow. 


QW- Suzanne Collins interview. Listen &take notes in Writer’s Notebook.

HW- TUES - Test on Demon’s words READ THROUGH CHAPTER 3.
Turn in stamped final draft of No Excuses/Demons project.
Weds. Read Chapters up to and including Chapter 5
Thurs- Part 1 finished, read through Chapter 9

Fri- Turn in unused late passes. End of Quarter 1.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
