Let’s review and catch up with Refugee
Start from the beginning Chapter 8, p.40, Isabel

ENGLISH 8
QW 1- REFLECT on the last week. What did you do? What did your family do? Was this a time-off from school that was eventful, uneventful? Did you ever wish you were back? Why or why not? When did you leave? Did you pack a bag that was anything like your Hunger Games backpack? Share, maybe.
Did you finish backpacks? If so, hand in. If not, take that time tonight to do. Seems really important given the last week.
Let’s get back to The Hunger Games. Reading schedule moves up one week. That means finish the book by this Thursday.
QW- EULOGY --A eulogy is a piece of writing that celebrates and commemorates the life of a person. It is usually spoken at a person’s funeral. Rue did not receive a proper funeral nor a proper eulogy. Pretend that Katniss has written a eulogy for Rue. In Katniss’ voice write Rue’s eulogy. Be sure to capture Katniss’ emotions by writing in a sad and somber tone.

HW: Tuesday-Backpacks!  Read through Chapter 21
Wednesday: Read through to and including Chapter 24
Thursday -- Finish the novel, Part 3.
Will have final test on it or just on Part 3.

About Me

Sebastopol, CA
After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
