ENGLISH 7
Shared Two Sides of Me. Finish sharing the rest on Tuesday.
Classwork on A Boy And A Man.
Complete questions 1-4, and #6, all parts on p. 189.

Begin work on plot diagrams, taking notes on what makes up a plot.

Start plotting out A Boy And A Man, with at least one direct passage in each of the plot steps: conflict, exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, resolution.

Thurs: Mugshot Week 4 and mug quiz
Fri: Spelling Unit 5, exercises 1-20, p. 30 and a quiz;  Novel check in #3

QW: "Mystery creates wonder and wonder is the basis of man's desire to understand." Reflect on this. Five minutes or so.

Essay Day 2. Quiz on essay terms. A moment to study your notes on the essay.
Fill in boxes. Hand in.

GRADE DISPUTES? Settle on Thursday at break only. Bring a printout!

Check in rough and complete a one-paragraph character study of Squeaky, the main character in “Raymond’s Run.”
The writing must include at least three direct passages to chart how Squeaky changes from beginning to end in the story. Write as legibly as you can, in ink, skipping every other line.  You may use a Chromebook but must print it out on your own before class tomorrow.

Thurs: Settle grade disputes @ break only.
Friday:  Finish mystery novel.
You can be working on your final project that is due Thursday, Sept. 29.

After many years as a newspaper reporter and writer, a job that I was lucky enough to love, I got my English teaching credential, hoping to pass on to kids how to find their unique voice and clearly communicate what they think and feel. Public school educated in Philadelphia, college in New York City (Barnard College), transferred to and graduated from UC Berkeley in English and received a master's degree in journalism from Columbia University. Yay, my son, my student in 8th grade, is now a Cal alumni, too, a 2017 graduate with a degree in computer science, now working at Google (You Tube) as a product manager. William Faulkner is one of my favorite writers, as well as Anne Lamott, Langston Hughes and many of the nighttime, satirical comedy shows. On my top bookshelf sit Nobel Prize winning writers Toni Morrison and Orhan Pamuk, along with friends who have won Pulitzer Prizes in journalism, who started writing in junior high or in writing groups in Sonoma County. Go public education in California!
